The Longest Cherry Blossom Path in Japan.
The longest walking path under cherry blossom trees is in Saitama city. There are many beautiful cherry blossom spots throughout the country, but this is the only place where you can walk under cherry blossoms for over 20 kilometers.
Saitama city is located in the Tokyo metropolitan area, but this region is richly endowed with nature and called “Minuma” or “Minuma-Tambo.”
The cherry blossom trees were planted in the 18th century when the canal of Minuma was developed. There are many kinds of cherry blossom trees in the region, so you can enjoy the bloom for longer period of time as compared with other spots.
さいたま市の東部地区には、世界一の桜回廊があります。桜の名所は日本全国にありますが、２０キロに渡って桜の下を散策路が続く場所はここだけです。日本人にもまだまだ知れ渡っていない桜の穴場スポットです。
さいたま市は、東京から鉄道でも車でも30分から1時間の首都圏にありますが、桜回廊のエリアは自然豊かな一帯で、”見沼”または”見沼たんぼ”と呼ばれています。
桜回廊は、18世紀の新田開発でひかれた見沼代用水沿いに植樹された桜です。ソメイヨシノが多いのですが、ミヤマザクラ、エドヒガン、ヤマザクラなどもあって、開花のタイミングが少しずつ異なり比較的長く桜の花を楽しめます。
